A father of Sophie Ellis-Bextor has died after suffering from lung cancer, it was revealed on Thursday.
The 46-year-old actor was diagnosed with the rare lung disease in 2015, according to her family.
He had battled the disease for six months and was recently admitted to a hospice care facility.
“Sophia’s father, Michael, passed away today from complications from his lung cancer,” the family said in a statement on Thursday, via the Hollywood Reporter.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.”
The star was nominated for an Emmy for her role as the leader of the Resistance in season three of “The Americans”.
In an Instagram post, she described her father as “a fantastic man who loved life and his daughter.”
“He was a loving, kind, loving person.
My Dad would have loved nothing more than to share his love with his beautiful daughter, Sophie,” she added.
The actor also revealed in November that she had been diagnosed with advanced stage 4 lung cancer and was being treated with a stem cell transplant.
